According to the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Parliamentary and Legal Affairs and Political Communication Mahmoud Fawzy attended the meeting, which was part of regular consultations between the foreign minister and foreign diplomats.
During the meeting, Abdelatty praised Egypt's strong relations with the EU, particularly after their relationship was elevated to a comprehensive strategic partnership in March 2024.
He stressed the importance of implementing the partnership’s six pillars and welcomed the EU's financial package for Egypt. He noted the disbursement of the first tranche of one billion euros and expressed hope for the swift release of the second tranche worth four billion euros.
The minister emphasized cooperation on migration, underlining the need to link migration with development and address the root causes of irregular migration.
During the meeting, Abdelatty briefed the EU ambassadors on Egypt’s intensive efforts, in coordination with Qatar and the United States, to broker a ceasefire in Gaza and facilitate a prisoner exchange agreement.
He highlighted the importance of expediting humanitarian aid delivery, implementing the agreement, and adhering to its scheduled phases.
The minister also outlined Egypt's stance on various regional issues, emphasizing the need to respect Syria’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity while launching a Syrian-led and owned political process to ensure the country’s stability.
He addressed developments in Sudan, Libya, and the Horn of Africa, reiterating the direct link between stability in the Horn of Africa and Egypt’s national security.
Abdelatty affirmed the Egyptian leadership’s commitment to improving citizens’ quality of life and providing a dignified standard of living.
He highlighted progress in advancing human rights across political, economic, social, and cultural dimensions and legislative and institutional reforms under Egypt’s National Human Rights Strategy.
Minister Fawzy elaborated on Egypt's national efforts to strengthen legislative frameworks related to human rights and fundamental freedoms, including new laws on criminal procedures and asylum for foreigners.
He also discussed the upcoming Universal Periodic Review (UPR) session on human rights in Geneva at the end of January, expressing Egypt’s eagerness to showcase its steps towards enhancing human rights practices.
