Montpellier player Dodo, 24, left the game in the first half of Sunday’s 28-24 victory over hosts Croatia in the final Group H match at the tournament’s preliminary round.

“Scans revealed that Dodo picked up a knock in his knee that will sideline him for a week and so he won’t be available for the main round games,” EHF president Khaled Fathy was quoted as saying by Egyptian media.

“The player will continue his rehabilitation program with the team as we hope that he will recover and play the remaining games,” he added.

Egypt already secured their spot in the main round with a game to spare in Group H after beating Argentina and Bahrain 39-25 and 35-24, respectively, in the initial two matches.

The Pharaohs currently top their group with a perfect six points.

Hosts Croatia secured the second spot with four points, while Argentina claimed third place with two points after defeating Bahrain earlier on Sunday.

In the upcoming main round, the nine-time African champions Egypt are set to face the winner of Group G, with Slovenia and Iceland slated to battle it out on Monday to determine the group leader.

Egypt's main round fixture is scheduled for Wednesday.

The 29th edition of the prestigious event is currently held in Croatia, Denmark, and Norway.

The Pharaohs are making their 18th appearance in the World’s biggest handball competition.

Their best-ever achievement was ending in fourth place in the 2001 edition in France.
