Wust El-Balad - music

Wust El-Balad is an Egyptian rock band founded in 1999.
The band was co-founded by oud and flute player Ahmed Omran and guitarist and vocalist Hany Adel.
The band also includes vocalist Adham El-Saeid, percussionist and drummer Mohamed (Mizo) Gamal El-Din, bassist Ahmed Omar, acoustic guitarist Asaad Nessim, and percussionist Ehab (Bob) Abdel-Hameed.
The band’s sound blends Western rock rhythms with traditional Egyptian music.

Thursday, 23 January, brings several new films to movie theatres across Egypt:

- Into The Deep, starring Stuart Townsend, Richard Dreyfuss, and Taylor Compton.
- Sukkar: Sabaabaa w Houboub Al Kharziz, starring Mohammed Tharwat, Motaz Hisham, Magda Zaki, and Hala Al-Turk.

Fouad and Mounib - music

Fouad and Mounib's story begins in 2015 when the two musicians met on Facebook and began sharing their music.
After a few months, the duo performed in their first concert at Alexandria’s Creativity Centre.
The duo’s popularity increased, taking them to numerous renowned halls, including the Cairo Opera House and Bibliotheca Alexandrina’s Arts Centre, and tours to Morocco and Austria.
With time, the musicians started pursuing more ambitious creative endeavours, with Mounib creating arrangements for various ensembles and an orchestra.
Two operas by Puccini
23, 24, 26, and 27 January, 8pm

The Cairo Opera Company and Cairo Opera Orchestra, conducted by Ahmed Farag, will present two operas by Italian composer Giacomo Puccini: Gianni Schicchi and Suor Angelica.
Gianni Schicchi is a comic one-act opera, while Suor Angelica is a tragic all-female opera about Sister Angelica.
Puccini, born in 1858, is regarded as one of the most important composers of the late Romantic era, significantly influencing the development of opera in the 20th century.

Alexandria Opera Ensemble for Music & Arab Singing

Maestro Alaa Abdelsalam will be conducting the Alexandria Opera Ensemble for Music and Arab Singing.
Several singers will perform during the evening: Amir Refai, Yasmine Ibrahim, Heba Ismail, Nada Ghaleb, El-Sayed Wahballah, Mohamed Raeis, and Islam Morsy.

Folklorita - music
Friday, 24 January, 8pm
El-Sawy Culturewheel, River Hall, 26th of July Street, Zamalek, Cairo
Folklorita presents covers of the songs from the Egyptian heritage.
The group, consisting of 17 performers and other musicians, relies mainly on voices, percussive instruments, tabla, doholla, and daff.
Folklorita’s first concert was in March 2024. Since then, the group has performed across many venues in Egypt.
They have also performed during the opening and closing ceremony of the Alexandria Short Film Festival.
Abu Shaar Brothers - music

Abu Shaar Bro (El Ekhwa Abu Shaar), formed in the 1980s, are internationally renowned Syrian performers, with new generations subsequently entering the ensemble.
Their music and lyrics focus on a religious repertoire, including songs praising Prophet Muhammad.
The brothers currently reside in Egypt, where they hold many concerts.
Al-Mawlawiya Al-Masreya and Amer El-Tony - music

Rana Haggag, Ali Omar El-Farouk, Ahmad Hani - music

The three artists are collaborating for the first time as a trio.
Rana Haggag is a violinist and singer combining classical Arabic and jazz music.
Haggag holds a Bachelor's degree from the Cairo Conservatory and a Master's degree in Violin Performance.
Her first step to the jazz scene in Egypt was at Cairo Jazz Festival 2018.
Since then, she has had her own music project that showcases her own style of singing and playing Jazz tunes and mash-ups.
Ali Omar El-Farouk is an Egyptian-Canadian guitarist and oud player based out of Montreal and Cairo.
He is an active performer, teacher, and composer with a professional career spanning over two decades, including numerous international performances.
His first album Ela Mataa? (2019) was recorded in Montreal.
Ahmad Hani is a self-taught bass player, composer, and educator, who is based between Egypt and Turkey. He performed concerts, TV shows, and workshops in over 25 countries.
Hani’s career includes performing and recording with many famous Arabic pop artists such as Hisham Abbas and Angham.
Ali Quandil - stand-up comedy

Ali Quandil is one of the stand-up comedy pioneers in Egypt.
Over the past 10 years, he has presented 500 shows in more than 20 Egyptian cities, as well as his shows in Dubai and The Comedy Club in Jeddah.
Quandil founded the first cultural centre for training in the art of stand-up comedy in Egypt and the Arab world through comedy workshops attended by many of the known names in Egyptian stand-up comedy today.
Dina El-Wedidi storyteller series

For the first time, Dina El-Wedidi will perform a storyteller series of shows, showcasing the story behind some of her songs and talking about her journey.
El-Wedidi’s music is deeply rooted in Egypt and Africa. She touches on many, often contrasting, cultures.
El-Wedidi also incorporates electronic sounds to her music.
