"We are working in full coordination with the relevant authorities to ensure the swift transfer of the injured from Gaza,” Cairo University President Mohamed Sami Abdel-Sadek said in a statement.

Abdel-Sadek emphasized that necessary care will be provided when the patients arrive and that the university will offer the best medical services with the highest quality standards.

He said this is part of its social responsibility as one of the most prestigious educational and healthcare institutions in Egypt and the region.

He also noted that it will provide medical, psychological, and emotional assistance to the injured from Gaza

Moreover, Abdel-Sadek confirmed that the hospitals are ready with sufficient medical team members, all necessary medications, and various medical supplies.

He said an additional strategic stockpile of medicines, emergency medical supplies, and extra quantities of blood bags and their derivatives have also been prepared.

Meanwhile, Hossam Salah, dean of the Faculty of Medicine and chairman of the board of the university hospitals, reiterated that Kasr El-Aini has taken several measures to enhance its readiness.

These measures include fully activating emergency plans across all hospitals and preparing operating rooms, emergency departments, and intensive care units to accommodate cases from Gaza.

Salah added that Kasr El-Aini doctors will provide first aid to urgent cases from Gaza, and medical and technical teams will be available around the clock.

Gaza war

Israel's genocidal war has devastated much of the Gaza Strip's infrastructure and displaced the majority of its 2.4 million population.

Furthermore, it has killed 47,000 people and wounded more than 110,000 others over 15 months of relentless bombardments and ground incursions.

On Saturday, Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar and Minister of Social Solidarity Maya Morsy inspected the Rafah border crossing quarantine to ensure the availability of all prescribed vaccines in preparation for the arrival of injured people from Gaza.

Immediately after the announcement that Israel and Hamas agreed to a ceasefire deal last week, Egyptian authorities began intensive preparations in North Sinai to reopen the Rafah border crossing that Israel closed in May 2024 after its army occupied its Palestinian side.
