El-Sisi, Putin discuss Egyptian-Russian economic relations, Gaza ceasefire

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi discussed with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Tuesday the latest developments in Egyptian-Russian economic relations, especially establishing a Russian industrial zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone and constructing the El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant.

According to the Egyptian presidency, the two leaders also addressed regional developments, focusing on the situation in Gaza.

El-Sisi reviewed in the telephone call received from Putin Egypt's efforts since October 2023, in collaboration with Qatar and the United States, to broker a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.

He emphasized that the ceasefire serves as a cornerstone for restoring calm in the region and outlined ongoing Egyptian initiatives to ensure the agreement's implementation and the unimpeded delivery of sufficient humanitarian aid.

The Egyptian president underscored the importance of international cooperation in implementing the agreement and paving the way for a political solution based on the two-state framework according to international resolutions.

He stressed that this approach is the only path to achieving lasting regional security and stability.

From his side, President Putin expressed his appreciation for Egypt's pivotal role in brokering the agreement and its ongoing efforts to stabilize the region.

 He reiterated Russia's commitment to maintaining close coordination with Egypt and his country's eagerness to strengthen economic ties with Cairo.

The Egyptian presidency also noted that the two leaders discussed the situation in Syria.

President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to preserving Syria's unity, territorial integrity, and people's security.

 He called for regional and international efforts to restore stability in Syria.

The conversation further touched on developments in Lebanon, ongoing efforts to stabilize Sudan and Libya, and the evolving situation in the ongoing war in Ukraine.
