In the loss, Zamalek missed the chance to claim the top spot in the league, stagnating at 17 points and slipping to third place in the league standings after Pyramids (20) and Ahly (19).

With the victory, Modern Sport moved up to the second-from-the-bottom spot of the Egyptian League table at seven points from nine games.

Zamalek dominated the game throughout but Seifeddine Jaziri and Ahmed 'Zizo' Sayed missed several scoring opportunities.

However, Modern Sport players showcased some of their dormant skills in the second half.

Six minutes before regulation, Cameroonian substitute Joseph Jonathan, 33, failed to convert a clear chance as Zamalek's goalkeeper Mohamed Awad made a crucial save.

However, in the 87th minute, Jonathan redeemed himself. He capitalized on a superb through pass from Ali Zazaa, finding himself one-on-one with goalkeeper Awad and slotting the ball into the left side of the net.

This victory marks Modern Sport's first win of the season in the Egyptian League following four losses and four draws.
