Ambulances have been lined up in front of the Egyptian side of the crossing in preparation for transporting those in need of medical assistance from Gaza, according to Al-Qahera News correspondent.
On Friday, thousands of Egyptians, led by public figures and political delegations, gathered in the Egyptian Rafah on the border with Gaza to protest against US President Donald Trump’s proposals to displace the Palestinians and demand that Tel Aviv open the Rafah border crossing to the unfettered entry of aid to the strip.
The Rafah crossing, a crucial entry point into Gaza, was closed in May 2024 when the Israeli military invaded the Palestinian Rafah and shuttered the Palestinian side of the crossing, halting the entry of most aid to the strip.
Egypt has sent hundreds of aid convoys to the strip immediately after the three-phase ceasefire agreement agreement between Israel and Hamas took effect on 19 January.
On 25 January, the Rafah crossing received 70 Palestinian prisoners freed from Israeli jails to be deported from the Palestinian territories as per the ceasefire deal.
