According to the Egyptian Ministry of Culture, the fair wrapped up its activities on Wednesday, with its final day attracting 388,643 visitors.
This year's edition, held from 23 January to 5 February, adopted the theme "Read… In the Beginning Was the Word."
Last year’s edition attracted around 4.7 million visitors.
Minister of Culture Ahmed Hano highlighted that the massive public engagement reaffirms “Egypt’s cultural leadership, solidifying its status as a hub of knowledge and intellectual thought.”
He also praised Egyptian families' active participation, underscoring their role in nurturing educated and enlightened generations that contribute to the nation's development.
The Sultanate of Oman was this year's book fair’s Guest of Honour.
Ahmed Mostageer, a renowned Egyptian scientist and writer, was named "Personality of the Fair." Meanwhile, author Fatima Al-Maadoul was recognized as the "Personality of the Children's Book Fair."
This year’s edition featured 1,345 publishing houses from 80 countries and 6,150 exhibitors, showcasing a diverse collection of literary and intellectual works, according to the Egyptian culture ministry.
Launched in 1969, the Cairo International Book Fair is one of the largest and oldest book fairs in the Arab region and worldwide.
From 1984 to 2019, the fair was held at the Cairo International Fair Zone in Nasr City.
However, in 2020, it was relocated to the Egypt International Exhibitions Centre in New Cairo, providing a more spacious and well-equipped venue.
