National universities are public institutions funded by the government. They provide education at relatively low tuition fees compared to private universities.

They opened their doors in the academic year 2022/2023 as part of Egypt's strategy to modernize its higher education system.

According to the Egyptian cabinet's statement, Ashour emphasized that establishing these universities aligns with the state's policy of building and equipping Egyptian universities according to international standards.

Ashour revealed that over 60,000 students are enrolled in these institutions, which reflects a high acceptance rate and growing demand for quality education.

The minister affirmed the government's dedication to ensuring these universities have the necessary academic resources, modern infrastructure, and administrative structures.

Additionally, Ashour emphasized that expanding national universities is part of Egypt’s vision to maximize the potential of higher education institutions and enhance the competitiveness of Egyptian higher education.

Moreover, the universities have designed their academic programmes to align with the latest scientific and technological advancements, including artificial intelligence.

This strategic approach has successfully attracted a new generation of students to crucial future-oriented disciplines, Ashour emphasized.

Egypt has 116 universities, including public, private, national, technological, and foreign institutions, along with 1,079 faculties.
