Eight killed, 6 injured in Cairo-Alexandria Desert Road crash

Eight people were killed and six others injured in a crash between a pickup truck and a microbus on the Alexandria Desert Road on Sunday.

The accident occurred on the Abu El-Kheir Bridge near the entrance to Abis 8 Village amid heavy rainfall, leaving the injured with fractures, wounds, and bruises. 

When notified of the crash, the Al-Amreya Police Department promptly dispatched police officers, traffic personnel, and ambulances to the scene.

The deceased were transferred to the Kom El-Dikka morgue.

Five injured were transported to Alexandria University Main Hospital (Al-Miri), and one was admitted to a private hospital for medical treatment.

Meanwhile, the Public Prosecution has been notified to proceed with the investigation.

Egypt recorded 5,861 road accident fatalities in 2023, a decrease from 7,762 in 2022.

However, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS), injuries rose from 55,991 in 2022 to 71,016 in 2023.
