French President Emmanuel Macron has rejected US President Donald Trump’s proposal to take over the Gaza Strip and displace its two million Palestinians, warning that "You cannot say to 2 million people, 'okay, now guess what? You will move'."

"The right answer is not a real estate operation, this is a political operation," Macron added on Thursday in an exclusive interview with CNN recorded at the Élysée Palace.

Trump announced his colonialist-style proposal that Washington would "take over" Gaza, deport its Palestinian population to Egypt, Jordan, and other Arab and Muslim countries, and turn the territory into the "Riviera of the Middle East" during a joint press conference with a warmongering Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House last week.

Trump's proposal to deport the Palestinians from their homeland drew widespread condemnation from Arab and Muslim countries, the Palestinian Authority, and all Palestinian factions.

EgyptJordanPalestinians, and Arab countries have categorically rejected all of Trump’s proposals to displace the Palestinian people from their homeland.

Arab countries have reaffirmed that the establishment of a Palestinian state based on the pre-June 4, 1967 borders under a two-state solution remains the only just resolution to the Palestinian cause.

Under President Macron, a critic of the toll Israel's genocidal war on Gaza took on the civilian population, France voted for UNSC resolutions demanding an end to the war on more than one occasion.

In October 2024, amid growing public and international condemnation of the war, France suspended arms exports to Israel while urging other countries to follow suit.

"We are very much attached to the right of Israel to live in peace and security in this region," Macron told CNN.

"I always reiterated my disagreement with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu," he added.

"I don’t believe, once again, that such a massive operation targeting sometimes civilian people is the right answer," he said.

On the issue of Gaza’s reconstruction, Macron stressed that any "efficient" rebuilding effort "doesn’t mean automatically that you should lack respect to people or countries, to a strong desire on the Palestinians' side to remain on their homelands."

He said this should also extend to respecting the refusal of neighbouring Arab states, Egypt and Jordan, to accept displaced Palestinians from Gaza, warning that their forced expulsion would threaten regional security and liquidate the Palestinian cause.

Europeans too!

Several European capitals also rejected Trump's proposals.

When asked about Trump's comments, a French foreign ministry spokesman said, "Any forced displacement of the population in Gaza would be unacceptable."

"It would not only be a serious violation of international law, but also a major hindrance to the two-state solution," the spokesman said, referring to calls for Israeli and Palestinian states to live side-by-side.

In a pre-election TV debate, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz branded the plan "a scandal" and said "the relocation of a population is unacceptable and against international law".

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock reiterated the message, saying the Gaza Strip "belongs to the Palestinians" and warned that "the civilian population of Gaza must not be expelled, and Gaza must not be permanently occupied or repopulated."

UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, speaking at a press conference in Kyiv, said Palestinians should be able to "live and prosper in their homelands in Gaza, in the West Bank."

Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares rejected Trump's proposal to resettle Palestinians elsewhere, affirming that "Gaza is the land of Gazan Palestinians, and they must stay in Gaza."

Egypt and Jordan said NO!

Egypt has repeatedly reaffirmed its unequivocal rejection of any proposal or plan to liquidate the Palestinian cause by forcibly displacing Palestinians from their historic homeland, even temporarily, asserting it "would not be a party to such a plan."

After meeting Trump at the White House on Tuesday, Jordan's King Abdullah II reaffirmed his country's "steadfast position against the displacement of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank."

"This is the unified Arab position. Rebuilding Gaza without displacing the Palestinians and addressing the dire humanitarian situation should be the priority for all," Abdullah II wrote on X.

In a statement on Sunday, Cairo said it will host an emergency Arab summit on 27 February to discuss what it described as "serious" developments for Palestinians cause.

On Wednesday, Egypt unveiled an immediate plan for Gaza reconstruction amid unprecedented destruction.

Egypt's plan for Gaza’s reconstruction is based on immediate action to rebuild the Gaza Strip in light of the enormous and unprecedented destruction the strip has suffered, Assistant Foreign Minister Ambassador Mohamed Hegazy told Ahram Online on Wednesday.
