Marmoush, City’s marquee winter signing, opened his league account after 165 minutes of play, ending a run of four games without a goal, and needed just 14 more to complete his treble.

The 26-year-old broke the deadlock in the 19th minute, latching onto goalkeeper Ederson’s pinpoint long ball before delicately chipping over Newcastle’s Martin Dúbravka from the edge of the box.

Five minutes later, Marmoush controlled a precise pass from midfielder Ilkay Gundogan before unleashing an unstoppable strike from the edge of the box.

The effort took a slight deflection but still found the bottom left corner of the net.

The Egyptian completed his dream hat-trick in the 33rd minute, slotting home a first-time finish from Savinho’s cutback at the penalty spot to cap a devastating first-half display.

His treble against Newcastle is the first of his career. He becomes the second Egyptian players to score three goals in a single Premier League game after Mohamed Salah.

Marmoush was substituted in the 87th minute, receiving applause from the City fans for his impressive performance.

Second-half substitute James McAtee added gloss to the scoreline in the 84th minute, volleying home from close range after Erling Haaland flicked on Gündoğan’s corner, marking the youngster’s first Premier League goal under Pep Guardiola.

With this result, the Sky Blues are now back into the Premier League's top four with 44 points, 13 behind table toppers Liverpool.

Manchester City will look to Marmoush to maintain his dazzling form to overturn a first-leg deficit when they face Real Madrid in the second leg of the knockout stage of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.

Marmoush joined Manchester City during the January transfer window from Germany’s Eintracht Frankfurt for a reported fee of €75 million, following his scintillating form which saw him score 20 goals for the Bundesliga side in 26 games across all competitions.
