The meeting came on the sidelines of the 38th Ordinary Session of the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, which PM Madbouly is attending on behalf of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi.
During the meeting, Madbouly outlined Egypt’s efforts to reach a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and oversee the implementation of all its phases.
He stressed the importance of intensifying efforts to maintain the ceasefire and work toward a lasting truce that ends the war.
PM Madbouly also reiterated Egypt’s firm stance supporting the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights, particularly their right to establish an independent state based on the 4 June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, per the two-state solution.
Moreover, the prime minister reviewed the latest preparations for the upcoming emergency Arab summit in Cairo on 27 February.
For his part, Guterres praised Egypt’s efforts to support the Palestinian cause.
He also extended his appreciation and greetings to President El-Sisi, expressing his eagerness to continue working closely with Egypt on this critical issue.
On Thursday, Egyptian-Qatari mediation efforts helped clear the obstacles hindering the progress of the Gaza ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.
Israel and Hamas swapped the sixth batch of captives and prisoners on Saturday.
On Wednesday, Ambassador Mohamed Hegazy, the former assistant minister of foreign affairs, said Cairo would unveil an Egyptian plan to start Gaza reconstruction immediately.
Al Arabiya TV reported that Egypt's reconstruction plan for Gaza includes building safe housing units within 18 months.
It also involves designating safe zones within the strip to relocate residents during the first six months.
Twenty-four multinational companies will participate in the reconstruction efforts, including debris removal in specific areas during these six months.
