President of the World Jewish Congress Ronald S. Lauder said Sunday he is looking forward to the Egyptian-Arab proposal on Gaza, stressing that peace is the only hope for the Palestinian-Israeli conflict that shall prevail through the two-state solution.

Lauder said this in a meeting with President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and Hassan Mahmoud Rashad, head of the Egyptian General Intelligence Service (GIS), a statement by the Egyptian presidency read.

The statement added that, during the meeting, President El-Sisi confirmed that Egypt is preparing a comprehensive reconstruction plan for Gaza.

Moreover, he stressed that all parties must be committed to maintaining the ceasefire, asserting that continued conflict and potential escalation would be detrimental to everyone.

The leaders of Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates are scheduled to meet in Riyadh on Thursday to discuss Trump's proposal. This comes ahead of the Cairo emergency Arab Summit on 27 February, which aims to address recent developments in the Palestinian cause.

Furthermore, El-Sisi reaffirmed that lasting peace requires establishing an independent Palestinian state along the 4 June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The meeting also discussed efforts to restore stability in the Middle East, including Egypt's mediation to implement the ceasefire in Gaza, facilitate humanitarian aid, and oversee the captive-detainee exchange.

Meanwhile, Lauder expressed his support for President El-Sisi’s reiteration of the critical need to launch the reconstruction phase in the Gaza Strip while firmly rejecting any forced displacement of its population.

He also expressed his commitment to further consultations with Egypt and described his talks with President El-Sisi as "excellent and useful."

Lauder articulated his appreciation for Egypt's unwavering efforts to achieve peace and restore stability in the Middle East.

Additionally, he emphasized the critical role of Egyptian-American relations in ensuring regional stability and the World Jewish Congress' support for all efforts exerted to maintain stability and peace in the region.

Trump's colonialist-style plan

Earlier in February, US President Donald Trump proposed a colonialist-style plan saying the US would "take over" Gaza and transform it into the "Riviera of the Middle East," which entails deporting over two million Gazans to Jordan, Egypt, and other Arab states.

This proposal provoked global outrage, leading Egypt and Jordan to reject it promptly.

Other Arab nations also reiterated their firm opposition to any attempt aimed at uprooting Palestinians or erasing their cause.

On Thursday, over 350 rabbis, along with Jewish creatives and activists, signed an ad in the New York Times condemning Trump’s proposal, describing it as a plan for ethnically cleansing Palestinians from Gaza.

Al Arabiya TV reported Thursday that Egypt's reconstruction plan for Gaza emphasizes early recovery efforts. It concentrates on rebuilding vital infrastructure, delivering urgent humanitarian aid, and revitalizing the local economy to restore essential living conditions before a full-scale reconstruction phase.

Al Arabiya added that Egypt will finalize its comprehensive reconstruction plan by next week. The first phase is scheduled to commence after the emergency Arab summit.

On Saturday, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly also emphasized, during a meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Egypt's continued coordination with regional and international partners to strengthen efforts for Gaza ceasefire and reconstruction.
