The Egyptian foreign ministry stated that the emergency summit, initially scheduled for 27 February, was rescheduled after consultations with Arab states and in coordination with Bahrain, the current chair of the Arab League Council.

On Sunday, Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League Hossam Zaki said the emergency summit could be rescheduled due to logistical issues in light of Egypt’s keenness to ensure the presence of the maximum number of Arab leaders to guarantee the summit’s success.

Egypt has called for the emergency summit to formulate a unified Arab stance to counter recent proposals by US President Donald Trump’s call for Washington to take control of Gaza, forcibly displace its native Palestinian population to Egypt, Jordan, and other Arab and Muslim countries to build a Riviera in the Middle East.

EgyptJordanPalestinians, and Arab countries have categorically rejected all of Trump’s proposals to displace the Palestinian people from their homeland, reaffirming that the establishment of a Palestinian state based on the pre-4 June 1967 borders under a two-state solution remains the only just resolution to the Palestinian cause.

In tandem, Cairo has been developing a comprehensive plan for the immediate reconstruction of the strip without any displacement of the Palestinian people.

On Sunday, Zaki explained that the emergency summit in Cairo aims to establish a strong and unified Arab stance on the Palestinian cause, particularly in response to Israeli and US schemes to dispossess the Palestinians.

He stated that Egypt’s proposal would be a key focus of the discussions, presenting ideas for reconstructing the Gaza Strip and creating job opportunities without forcing residents to leave the strip.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia moved its mini-Arab summit on Palestine from 20 February to the 21st to include the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, along with Egypt and Jordan, Arab diplomats told AFP on Monday.

Palestine could also be invited to the Riyadh summit, according to Zaki.
