Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi arrived in Riyadh on Thursday to attend an informal meeting on Gaza, set to take place on Friday. The gathering will bring together the leaders of Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain, the Egyptian presidency said.

The Saudi-spearheaded meeting will discuss a Gaza post-war reconstruction plan to counter a recent proposal by US President Donald Trump to “clean out” the strip.

The meeting will precede a broader Arab League summit on the developments in the Palestinian cause, called by Egypt, scheduled for 4 March in Cairo.

Earlier in February, Trump's proposal that Washington take control of Gaza, forcibly displace its native Palestinian population, and build a “Middle East Riviera” has sparked a global outcry.

The US president has cited Egypt, Jordan, and other Arab countries as possible destinations for the Palestinians.

Consequently, Cairo, Amman, and other Arab nations have immediately rejected the idea, considering it a dismissal of Palestinians' historical rights and a threat to regional stability.

Moreover, they have warned that any attempt to displace the Palestinians from their land would liquidate their decades-old cause, urging international recognition of the Palestinian state along the pre-4 June 1967 borders per the two-state solution.

Dismay was further heightened in Saudi Arabia following Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's incendiary proposal in a TV interview on 6 February, suggesting that the kingdom’s land be used to establish a Palestinian state.

Netanyahu's arrogant proposal has drawn widespread condemnation across the Arab world, with Egypt declaring that Saudi Arabia's security and sovereignty are a "red line" that Cairo would never compromise.

Furthermore, the Arab League condemned his statements as "a complete detachment from reality."

Egypt is preparing a comprehensive plan for rebuilding the heavily devastated Gaza Strip without displacing the Palestinians.

An informed political source said the final draft of the Egyptian proposal is expected to be ready before the Riyadh Summit.
