Egypt will host Positive Hack Talks, a hands-on cybersecurity event on Wednesday in collaboration with Russian Positive Technologies, one of the key players in the cybersecurity industry.

The event, which will be held at Fairmont Nile City Hotel, is opportune for cybersecurity enthusiasts, seasoned experts, and government and business representatives from Russia and Egypt to engage in discussions, share insights, and deepen their understanding of the evolving cybersecurity landscape.

This event in Cairo follows Positive Technologies’ global series of meetups, which began in 2024 with an event in Bengaluru, India, in October, followed by another in Hanoi, Vietnam, in November.

Egypt has become a regional leader in digital technology. Between 2022 and 2024, the country's internet users grew by 6.3 million, reaching over 82 million. According to the 2023–2024 report by the International Telecommunication Union, Egypt was among the 12 countries to receive the highest rating in the Global Cybersecurity Index.

The rapid pace of digital transformation has attracted the attention of cybercriminals. According to Positive Technologies, Egypt, accounting for 13 percent of cyberattacks, placed second in Africa for the number of cyberattacks.

The cybersecurity industry is now valued at EGP 15 billion (over $295 million), its digital infrastructure is developing, and digital transformation is witnessing a boom.

In 2024, Positive Technologies uncovered over a hundred listings on dark web forums, offering stolen databases that contain confidential information from Egyptian citizens and organizations.

Accordingly, the sale of personal data for 85 million Egyptians was flagged. Data breaches have been most prevalent in sectors such as e-commerce (22 percent), followed by individuals (40 percent) and the service and transport sectors (10 percent each). Safeguarding corporate cybersecurity and protecting personal data have become key priorities for private and local authorities.

Meetup highlights

"This meetup represents a vital step in building a global network of cybersecurity professionals. Our goal is to foster knowledge exchange, collectively enhance security, and tackle the growing threats posed by cybercriminals worldwide,” said Dmitry Serebryannikov, chief hacking officer at Positive Technologies.

Ilya Leonov, regional director for MENA at Positive Technologies, said: "In Egypt, we have strengthened our presence through partnerships with local cybersecurity service providers. Last year, we signed several cooperation agreements in Egypt and the broader region. Our focus remains on expanding our partner network, supporting the development of local expertise through educational collaborations, and sharing our extensive knowledge and practical experience."

The Positive Hack Talks in Cairo will feature discussions on cybersecurity topics, including business logic vulnerabilities, client-side attacks, GraphQL security, and Internet of Things (IoT) exploitation.

Speakers will include Ahmed Qaramany, penetration tester at DeepStrike, LLC, who will provide a structured approach to penetration testing of GraphQL; Fares Walid, senior security consultant at Buguard, who will present innovative techniques for detecting business logic vulnerabilities and analyzing JavaScript; and Ksenia Naumova, senior malware analyst at Positive Technologies, who will discuss strategies for identifying emerging threats using generic network rules.

The event will also include sessions on eBPF security, Java virtual machine (JVM) fuzzing, and advanced hacking methods, offering attendees invaluable insights and networking opportunities.
