Informed sources told Al-Arabiya TV channel on Tuesday that Egypt firmly rejects any proposals regarding the future administration of the Gaza Strip.

The sources stated that Egypt maintains its stance that the Palestinians alone will be responsible for governing Gaza.

Egypt has also emphasized the reconstruction of Gaza without the displacement of its residents. The sources further noted that Egypt will not be drawn into any attempts to manage Gaza.

Earlier on Tuesday, Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid proposed that Egypt take over the administration of Gaza for at least eight years following the end of the war between Israel and Hamas in exchange for the international community settling Egypt’s foreign debts.

“The solution is for Egypt to take responsibility for governing the Gaza Strip for eight years, with the option to extend that period to 15 years,” the former Israeli prime minister stated while speaking at a forum hosted by a Washington-based think tank.

“At the same time, Egypt’s foreign debt will be paid off by the international community and regional allies,” he added.

Lapid’s proposal suggests that Egypt would lead a "peacekeeping force" involving the international community and Arab nations to "manage and rebuild" Gaza.

Historically, Egypt administrated Gaza following the 1948 war till the Six-Day War in June 1967.

Egypt has rejected officially similar calls in the past, asserting that Gaza will be ruled and administrated by Palestinians only.
