Ahly sporting director Mohamed Ramadan refuted reports that the club was considering replacing Koller or imposing fines on the coaching staff following their 1-1 draw against rivals Zamalek in the Egyptian Premier League.
“There have been no internal discussions about parting ways with the coaching staff. These are merely rumors intended to generate controversy; we have a media spokesperson who will address such matters when necessary.” Ramadan told Egypt’s state-run Channel One.
Ramadan also denied claims that Koller’s staff faced financial deductions after recent results, clarifying that only players were subject to penalties.
“How can you impose a fine on the coaching staff? If a club no longer wants a coach, the logical step is to make a change, not impose a penalty,” he said.
Koller, who assumed leadership of Ahly in 2022, has guided the team to numerous domestic and continental titles, including the Egyptian Premier League and CAF Champions League.
While acknowledging that the team’s recent performances have fallen short of expectations, Ramadan maintained that Koller remains the right coach for the job.
“Koller has been a highly successful coach for Ahly. Since 2000, he is among the club’s most accomplished managers. we are still in a strong position in the league, and for the first time in years, we secured Champions League qualification before the final group-stage match," he said.
Pressure has mounted on the Swiss tactician after a string of unconvincing performance, including a derby draw against Zamalek, especially with the much anticipated Club World Cup in June.
Ahly are joint leader of the Egyptian Premier League and remains a strong contender in Africa’s premier club competition.
