The Search and Rescue Center at the Ministry of Defense received a report of an irregular migration boat sinking in the Mediterranean Sea, and the General Command of the Egyptian Armed Forces promptly ordered the dispatch of a naval unit for search and rescue operations.

A commercial vessel passing through the Mediterranean was able to rescue the individuals from the sinking boat and handed them over to the naval unit upon its arrival at the incident site.

The Search and Rescue Center provided those rescued with medical and administrative care before handing them over to the relevant authorities for further legal procedures, according to the statement.

This incident is not the first of its kind. In July, the Egyptian Navy rescued a boat carrying 31 irregular migrants after its engine failed in the Mediterranean near Salloum.
