US President Donald Trump's threats regarding the return of captives held in the Gaza Strip encourage Israel to avoid implementing the ceasefire agreement, Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassim stated Thursday.

"These threats complicate matters regarding the ceasefire agreement and encourage the occupation to avoid implementing its terms," Qasim said, urging the US to pressure Israel to enter the ceasefire's second phase.

Qasim emphasized that the signed agreement, in which Washington was a key mediator, stipulates the release of Israeli captives and Palestinian prisoners in three phases.

"Hamas has fulfilled its obligations in the first phase of the agreement, while Tel Aviv is evading the implementation of the second phase," he added. "The U.S. administration is required to pressure the Israeli occupation to enter negotiations for the second phase in accordance with the terms of the ceasefire agreement."

Trump issued a “last warning” to Hamas to release all remaining captives held in Gaza, directing a sharply worded message after the White House confirmed that he had recently dispatched an envoy for unprecedented direct talks with the Palestinian group.

In a statement on his social media platform, Truth Social, following a meeting at the White House with eight former captives, Trump added that he was “sending Israel everything it needs to finish the job.”

“Release all of the hostages now, not later, and immediately return all of the dead bodies of the people you murdered, or it is over for you,” he stated.
