The statement said the group had agreed to the Administration Committee proposed in the Arab plan for Gaza reconstruction, adopted at the Cairo Extraordinary Arab Summit, "until Palestinian reconciliation is achieved and general elections are held at all levels."
The Egyptian plan stipulates establishing an Administration Committee to manage the Gaza Strip affairs during a six-month transitional period. This committee will be independent, composed of technocrats and nonpartisan figures, and operate under the Palestinian government's umbrella.
Its main objective is to enable the Palestinian Authority's complete return to the strip and facilitate governance during the transitional phase.
According to the Egyptian State Information Service (SIS), a Hamas delegation arrived in Cairo on Friday to discuss measures for implementing the Gaza ceasefire agreement and advancing negotiations to the second phase.
On Saturday, Taher Al-Nono, the media advisor to Hamas' political bureau, stressed to the Egyptian TV channel Al-Qahera News that national unity is necessary, calling for forming a consensus government that comprises independent Palestinian figures to oversee governance in both Gaza and the West Bank.
He also reiterated the group's commitment to unifying Palestinian institutions as a precursor to holding general elections.
Moreover, Al-Nono said the delegation’s visit to Cairo focused on discussions regarding the ceasefire's second phase and ensuring sustained aid deliveries to the strip.
The movement added in its statement that its delegation met with Egyptian General Intelligence Service Head Hassan Mahmoud Rashad to discuss the "implementation of the ceasefire agreement and the exchange of captives in its various stages."
"The delegation emphasized the necessity of adhering to all terms of the agreement, immediately commencing negotiations for the second phase, reopening border crossings, and allowing aid into Gaza without restrictions or conditions," the statement read.
The Arab plan serves as a unified Arab response to US President Donald Trump’s colonialist-style idea to take control of Gaza and displace its Palestinian population from their homeland.
The plan received immense support from several countries, including the UK, France, Italy, and Germany. Many leaders described it as a “realistic path forward” to rebuilding war-devastated Gaza. Earlier, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation also endorsed it.
