Al Ain Holding group, which is involved in the project, said in a statement that the modernization of the zoo is one of the largest entertainment projects in Egypt.

The zoo, spanning 112 acres, remains the largest city zoo in the world.

Its renovation included integrating its historic elements with modern features, which makes its design unique.

The site boasts around 3,000 historic trees with rare plant species, making it a wildlife attraction and a significant ecological and heritage site.

In July 2023, the Giza Zoo and the neighbouring Orman Garden, one of Egypt’s most well-known botanical gardens, closed their gates to prepare for renovation.

The project comes as part of Egypt’s broader efforts to enhance tourism and recreational facilities, reinforcing the country’s status as a leading travel destination in the region.

The Giza Zoo is the third oldest zoo worldwide and the oldest in Africa.

It was built between 1830 and 1895 by Khedive Ismail, the ruler of Egypt at the time, and was opened in 1891.
