On 30 January, Thailand's foreign ministry issued a statement saying that five Thai captives in Gaza have been freed, expressing their appreciation to Qatar, Egypt, Iran, Türkiye, the US, and other friendly countries for contributing to their release.
FM Sangiampongsa also commended Egypt’s effective and continuous role since 7 October 2023, according to an Egyptian foreign ministry statement.
In this context, Abdelatty briefed Sangiampongsa on the latest developments in the region, including Egypt’s efforts to implement the three-phase ceasefire agreement.
Additionally, he stressed the necessity of facilitating humanitarian aid entry into Gaza and ensuring early recovery measures to address the extensive destruction the strip has suffered.
Egypt's top diplomat highlighted key outcomes of the Extraordinary Arab Summit in Cairo, outlining Egypt’s $53 billion plan for Gaza’s reconstruction.
Abdelatty also noted that Egypt will host a high-level ministerial conference next month in coordination with the Palestinian Authority and the United Nations (UN) to mobilize support for the Arab plan.
The plan has received Arab and international approval.
Furthermore, the ministers discussed the progress in Egypt-Thailand relations, emphasizing the importance of building on the positive momentum from the past year, which marked 70 years of diplomatic ties.
The Egyptian FM praised the signing of a joint MoU last year to establish a Joint Trade Committee and an economic cooperation action plan. He also stressed the need to leverage this development to further enhance economic ties following Thailand’s recent integration into the BRICS bloc of which Egypt became a member in January 2024.
