One of the agreements signed involved developing the Zafarana power station project in the energy sector of the NWFE programme, aligning with Egypt's renewable energy goal of achieving 42 percent renewable energy in the national electricity mix by 2030.

The agreement was signed by Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat, Pakinam Kafafi, CEO of TAQA Arabia, and Karim Al-Azawi, managing director of Voltalia Egypt and Jordan.

The agreements were signed during a ceremony headed by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly.

PM Madbouly emphasized that the government will continue supporting and enhancing private sector institutions’ role in Egypt's economic activities, particularly in the energy sector.

He highlighted that these projects align with Egypt’s strategy to diversify energy sources, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and promote renewable energy, contributing significantly to the nation's sustainability goals, including electricity consumption savings.

PM Madbouly also witnessed the signing of a cooperation protocol to include the Seawater Desalination Plant in Ain Sokhna in the water sector of the NWFE programme. The plant will produce one million cubic metres of clean water daily.

The first phase of this project, with a capacity of 250,000 cubic metres per day, is being tendered under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. In collaboration with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, this initiative will meet the water needs of existing and future industrial projects, including green hydrogen initiatives.

The protocol was signed by Minister Al-Mashat, Minister of Finance Ahmed Kouchouk, and Walid Gamal El-Din, chairman of the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone).

A framework cooperation agreement was signed to include Scatec, a Norwegian renewable energy company, in the NWFE programme. This partnership will focus on renewable energy projects in Egypt. Minister Al-Mashat and Terry Belskog, CEO of Scatec, signed the agreement.

Egypt Aluminium Company and Scatec Norway signed an agreement to establish a 1 GW solar power station and purchase clean energy for the aluminium complex in Nagaa Hammadi. With foreign direct investments amounting to $650 million, this partnership will significantly reduce the plant's operational costs while improving its environmental sustainability.

The project will help meet international carbon emission reduction standards and enhance Egypt aluminium’s competitiveness in the global market. Meanwhile, it is a strategic step towards promoting the use of renewable energy in Egypt’s industrial sector and will provide more than 40 percent of the plant’s energy needs.
