Ahly midfielder Hossam Ashour sustained muscle injury during the 2-1 loss to Smouha in a friendly on Saturday within preparations for the game against Nigerian side Sunshine Stars in the semifinals of the CAF Champions League on 6 October.

Under the helm of Hossam El-Badry, Ahly technical staff decided to rest Ashour in the middle of the friendly as they feared losing the midfielder on the Nigeria trip.

The 26-year-old midfielder Ashour will undergo medical tests to determine the seriousness of the muscle injury he sustained before the Ahly crew fly to Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the Cairo giants left-back winger Sayed Moawad also left the Smouha friendly because of a sole injury and he will undergo tests on Sunday to determine his ability to join Ahly squad for the Champions League crucial showdown.

The six-time African Champions have booked their place in the semis of CAF champions League after topping Group B with 11 points while Sunshine Stars qualified after ending second in group A behind defending champions Esperance de Tunis.

The Red Devils will travel to Nigeria on 4 October.

Title holders Esperance of Tunisia take on four-time winners TP Mazembe of the DR Congo in the other semi-final clash.
