According to a statement by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abdelatty also reaffirmed to FM Veldkamp Egypt’s condemnation of the Israeli airstrikes on Gaza earlier on Tuesday. He emphasized that such actions escalate regional tensions, hindering efforts to restore calm and stability.
A deadly wave of Israeli airstrikes struck the Gaza Strip overnight, killing 413 Palestinians and wounding over 500, in what marks Israel’s latest and most vicious violation of an already fragile truce agreement that took effect on 19 January.
Moreover, Israel declared its intent to continue its assault on Gaza until all captives are returned. In response, Hamas accused Israel of opting to "resume war" after truce extension talks reached a deadlock, warning that renewed fighting could pose a "death sentence" for the captives.
In this context, Egypt's top diplomat stressed the need for the international community to pressure Israel to halt its aggression against Gaza, which constitutes a blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement.
Abdelatty also expressed his aspirations for EU nations, including the Netherlands, to participate in the upcoming international conference for Gaza’s reconstruction, highlighting Egypt’s extensive efforts to uphold the three-phased agreement.
He also emphasized the need to establish a political horizon for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, stressing that the two-state solution remains the only viable path to achieving peace in the region.
The intensified Israeli airstrikes in Gaza have sparked widespread reactions and raised fears of further escalation.
In a post on X, FM Veldkamp wrote, "We urge all parties to implement it [the ceasefire] in full: the remaining hostages must be released, humanitarian aid must reach those in need, and all hostilities must end permanently."
UN Human Rights Chief Volker Türk also condemned the attacks, describing them as the most intense since the fragile ceasefire began in January, warning that they would only deepen the ongoing tragedy.
