“Medical scans have shown that Ibrahim Adel is suffering from a muscle strain, and he will leave the Egypt national team camp for the game against Sierra Leone in the 2026 Africa World Cup qualifiers,” the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) said in a statement on Sunday.
The injury kept the 23-year-old versatile attacker out of the squad for Friday's Pharaohs game against Ethiopia.
Toward North America
On Friday, the Pharaohs cruised to a 2-0 victory over Ethiopia in the fifth round of the African 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers at Stade Larbi Zaouli in Casablanca.
Friday’s victory extended their unbeaten run to five games, solidifying the Pharaohs’ position atop Group A with 13 points after five games, five points ahead of second-placed Burkina Faso.
On the other hand, with the defeat, Ethiopia remained at the bottom of Group A with three points from three losses and three draws.
Egypt will face third-placed Sierra Leone on Tuesday at the Cairo International Stadium in the next round of qualifiers.
The Pharaohs are looking to reach their fourth-ever World Cup.
Their last appearance at the prestigious tournament came in 2018.
