Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly issued a decree granting a paid public holiday from Saturday, 29 March, to Tuesday, 1 April 2025, for employees of ministries, government agencies, public authorities, local administration units, public sector companies, and state-owned enterprises in celebration of Eid al-Fitr.

The decree also stipulates that if the official sighting of the Shawwal crescent moon confirms that Monday, 31 March 2025, is the first day of Shawwal 1446 AH, the holiday period will be extended until Wednesday, 2 April 2025.

According to astronomical calculations, Eid al-Fitr falls on Sunday, 30 March, in Egypt and other Arab countries.

However, Egypt's Dar Al-Ifta officially confirms the start date of Shawwal after sighting the crescent following the Maghrib prayer on Saturday.

The Ministry of Labour is expected to announce the Eid Al-Fitr holiday for private-sector employees.
