Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty convened a high-level coordination meeting on Monday to address logistical and substantive arrangements for the event, according to a Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement.
The Khartoum Process, also known as the EU-Horn of Africa Migration Route Initiative, serves as a regional platform to address migration-related issues, particularly human trafficking and people smuggling.
Established in November 2014, the process comprises 40 countries, including European Union member states, nations from the Horn and East Africa, Switzerland, Norway, and key international organizations.
Egypt has chaired the Steering Committee of the process since April 2024.
Its secretariat, managed by the African Union Commission and the European Commission, provides administrative support.
The EU provides financial assistance for core events and initiatives supporting the Khartoum Process's objectives.
In recent years, Egypt has introduced several national programmes to curb irregular migration and led numerous workshops and activities to foster cooperation and expertise exchange among member states of the Khartoum Process.
These initiatives have addressed critical issues, including irregular migration, development, and combating human trafficking and migrant smuggling.
