Egypt’s futsal team are gearing up for the upcoming Women’s Futsal Africa Cup of Nations.

The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) this week unveiled the schedule for the inaugural CAF Women’s Futsal Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) which will take place from 22-30 April in Rabat, Morocco.

Egypt are participating in the event for the first time. The team is led by head coach Nader Rashad and serious preparations for the upcoming event include training daily at the indoor complex of Cairo Stadium.

According to CAF online, the competition will bring together the best nations on the continent in a thrilling tournament where they will compete for the crown of Africa’s best team, and try to earn a place at the FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup later this year.

All matches will take place at the Moulay-Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat.

The group stage kicks off on 22 April with three matches: Morocco vs Namibia (Group A), Angola vs Guinea (Group B) and Madagascar vs Senegal (Group C).

On 24 April Morocco will take on Cameroon in Group A, Angola versus Egypt in Group B and Madagascar vs Tanzania in Group C.

The group stage will conclude on 26 April with the following games: Cameroon vs Namibia (Group A), Egypt vs Guinea (Group B) and Tanzania vs Senegal (Group C)

The winners of each of the three pools will go directly to the semi-finals of the tournament. Fourth place in the semi-finals will go to the team ranked the best second among the groups.

The semi-finals will be held on 28 April. The winners will qualify for the final game.

Classification matches for the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth places will be on 29 April whereas the final and third place matches will be held on 30 April.

The finalists will qualify for the FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup scheduled to take place in the Philippines from 27 November to 7 December of this year.

Futsal is a modified form of soccer played with five players per side on a smaller, typically indoor, pitch.
