The Egyptian Foreign Ministry stated that this occurred during a phone call in which both ministers discussed the dire situation in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
During the call, Abdelatty and Mustafa reaffirmed their condemnation of Israel’s continued aggression, violations of international law and international humanitarian law, and crimes against the Palestinian people there.
For his part, FM Mustafa thanked Egypt for its relentless efforts to uphold the rights of the Palestinian people and end the Israeli aggression on Gaza.
He also expressed eagerness to jointly facilitate the conference Egypt will host in April to mobilize funding for implementing the Arab-Islamic plan for Gaza reconstruction.
Furthermore, both sides agreed to continue coordination for this conference and support efforts to help Palestinians remain in their homeland.
Meeting with PLO official
On Tuesday, FM Abdelatty also discussed the escalating Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank during another phone call with Hussein Al-Sheikh, secretary-general of the Palestine Liberation Organization's (PLO) Executive Committee.
The PLO official briefed Abdelatty on the inhumane Israeli practices and ongoing violations against the Palestinian people, which have severely deteriorated the situation there, a statement by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs read.
For his part, Abdelatty reviewed Egypt’s ongoing efforts, in coordination with Qatar, to restore and uphold the truce, halt renewed Israeli attacks, and advance negotiations towards the second phase of the ceasefire.
Since the beginning of Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza on 7 October 2023, Egypt has consistently reaffirmed its unwavering support for the Palestinian people, firmly rejecting any attempt to liquidate their cause.
On Monday, Cairo condemned the Israeli government's decision to establish a new directorate under the Ministry of Defencse to facilitate the so-called “voluntary departure” of Palestinians from Gaza and its approval of plans to authorize 13 new settlements in the occupied West Bank.
Their discussions came as Israel launched a fierce wave of attacks on Gaza on 18 March, killing over 830 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injuring around 1,400 others so far.
On Wednesday, Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip killed at least 13 Palestinians, including four children and an infant, in a series of attacks targeting homes and civilian gatherings.
The overall death toll among Palestinians since the onset of the war on Gaza has exceeded 51,000, with at least nearly 114,000 wounded.
Since 2 March, Israel has halted the entry of humanitarian aid to Gaza, starving 2.4 million Palestinians once again.
On 15 March, Tel Aviv unilaterally ended the ceasefire agreement brokered with Hamas by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States, effective since 19 January, and resumed its genocidal war on the strip.
Israel claimed it wanted Hamas to release all living and dead captives immediately rather than releasing them during the second phase of the ceasefire as agreed upon on 17 January.
