The booklet system, already used for secondary school exams, combines question and answer spaces into a single document, eliminating the need for separate answer sheets.
Each student receives a unique version of the exam to minimize cheating and a blank page for rough work.
The education ministry designed this system to ensure fairness, improve grading accuracy, and streamline the correction process.
In Egypt, the preparatory certificate is awarded at the end of middle school and is a prerequisite for students advancing to secondary education.
The final exams, taken by students in their third and final year of preparatory school (Year 9), play a key role in determining their academic path, including eligibility for general, technical, or vocational secondary schools.
Abdel-Latif confirmed the decision during a meeting with education officials to review preparations for the 2024–25 final exams.
He emphasized that the move aligns with the ministry’s broader efforts to improve examination integrity in coordination with local education authorities.
The education minister directed all governorates to begin printing exams in the new format and assured full technical support from the ministry.
Additionally, Abdel-Latif reiterated the ministry’s commitment to maintaining class sizes below 50 students and addressing teacher shortages.
