'Remember, Unite, Renew': Rwanda commemorates 31 anniversary of the 1994 genocide

Rwanda will commemorate the 31st anniversary of the Rwandan genocide against the Tutsi people, "Kwibuka," which claimed over one million lives from 7 April to 19 July 1994.

Rwanda's Ambassador to Cairo, Dan Munyuza, emphasized that the occasion is an opportunity to honour the victims and reflect on Rwanda's transformative journey over the three decades..

Ambassador Munyuza noted that this year's theme is "Remember, Unite, Renew."

"As we remember and honour those we lost, comfort survivors, and celebrate the sacrifices that restored Rwanda to life, the embassy in Cairo will organize an event to commemorate this occasion, starting with a walk that symbolizes the victims' suffering before being brutally killed," said Munyuza.

The walk will be attended by a Rwandan senator who survived the genocide.
