The call was made in a joint statement issued following a summit in Cairo, attended by Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Jordan’s King Abdullah II.
The leaders emphasized the urgency of implementing the 19 January exchange deal, which guarantees the release of hostages and detainees while ensuring security for all.
The statement underscored that protecting civilians and humanitarian personnel, along with full access to aid delivery, is an obligation under international law that must be upheld.
The leaders also voiced concern over the increasingly deteriorating situation in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, urging an end to unilateral measures that threaten the viability of the two-state solution and heighten tensions.
They also called for respect for the historic status quo on Jerusalem’s holy sites.
Since Israel resumed its military operations on 18 March, the death toll in Gaza has soared, with over 1,300 Palestinians killed and more than 3,000 injured, mostly women and children.
The deadly blockade on Gaza, reinstated by Israel on 2 March, has further exacerbated the humanitarian crisis by preventing the entry of medical supplies, humanitarian aid, and essential nutrients.
Since October 2023, Israeli occupation forces have killed over 50,600 Palestinians and injured more than 114,000. The ongoing Israeli security forum proposal seeks to fragment Gaza, turning it into “humanitarian islands” under Israeli control, a move firmly rejected by the leaders.
The three leaders reaffirmed their position against the displacement of Palestinians or any annexation of Palestinian territories.
They also called for an international endorsement of the Arab-Islamic plan for the reconstruction of Gaza, prepared by Egypt.
They emphasized the importance of ensuring security and governance in Gaza under the authority of the Palestinian Authority, with strong regional and international backing.
The leaders expressed their commitment to coordinating these efforts with the upcoming June conference, chaired by France and Saudi Arabia.
The conference aims to create a political framework for implementing the two-state solution.
They also voiced their support for the upcoming Gaza reconstruction conference, set to take place in Cairo.
The three leaders also held a joint phone call with US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the summit, discussing urgent measures to restore the Gaza ceasefire, according to the Egyptian Presidency.
They underscored the need for the immediate and full resumption of humanitarian aid access, as well as the release of all hostages and detainees without delay.
The leaders stressed the importance of creating the necessary conditions for a genuine political horizon, said Presidential Spokesperson, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shinawy.
They called for mobilizing international efforts to end the suffering of the Palestinian people, restore peace and security for all, and implement the two-state solution. The leaders and President Trump agreed to remain in close contact.
The spokesperson also mentioned that the call addressed the importance of accelerating efforts to achieve peace in Ukraine in accordance with international law and the shared need for global security and stability.
King Abdullah II of Jordan praised Egypt’s leadership, particularly President El-Sisi, for supporting the Palestinian cause while also acknowledging France’s vital role in advocating for a ceasefire and supporting the reconstruction of Gaza.
For his part, President Macron expressed his gratitude for Jordan and Egypt’s support for Palestinian rights, reaffirming France’s readiness to do whatever is necessary to restore peace and secure a political settlement to the Palestinian issue.
Following the summit, President El-Sisi and King Abdullah held a bilateral meeting, underscoring the importance of continued cooperation between the two countries on mutual concerns.
King Abdullah also met with President Macron to discuss further strengthening bilateral relations and promoting global security and stability.
