The 20-year-old fenced through a competitive field in the under-20 category to secure Egypt’s second gold at the tournament, which runs from 7 to 15 April in the Chinese city of Qingdao.

El-Sayed dominated throughout the knockout stages, defeating Ukraine’s Maksym Perchuk 15-9 in the semi-final and overcoming the United States’ Nathaniel Wimmer 15-11 in the quarter-final.

He opened his campaign with a perfect 6-0 record in the group stage, then advanced through the elimination rounds with victories over Slovakia’s Adrian Grunert (15-7), Italy’s Cristiano Sena (15-12), South Korea’s Dohyun Kim (15-9), and China’s Shengwei Peng (15-7) in the round of 16.

The result adds to Egypt’s medal tally at the championships after Abdelrahman Talaba won gold in the men’s foil individual event earlier this week.

The Junior World Championships, organized by the International Fencing Federation (FIE), bring together top young fencers from around the globe to compete in foil, epee, and sabre disciplines.
