Veteran midfielder Abdallah El-Said converted a penalty in the 44th minute, while substitute striker Nasser Mansi added a second goal in the dying minutes to seal the victory.
The White Knights bounced back from their shocking Confederation Cup exit last week to claim a win that could help restore calm after a nervy week that saw star Ahmed ‘Zizo’ Sayed leave the club before the Confederation Cup elimination.
This win allowed Zamalek to maintain their third place in the table with 38 points, six points behind leaders Pyramids FC and two off second-placed Ahly.
Zamalek produced a strong performance in the first half, creating many goalscoring chances but failing to convert them.
They needed to wait until the 44th minute when the referee awarded a penalty after a VAR check confirmed that the ball had touched the hand of a Harras El-Hodoud defender inside the area.
Abdallah El-Said converted the penalty, scoring his fifth league goal this season and the 134th in his Egyptian League career.
In the second half, Harras El-Hodoud attempted to net an equalizer, but their shy efforts were easily contained by Zamalek’s defenders and goalkeeper Mohamed Awad.
Substitute striker Nasser Mansi, who replaced the Tunisian striker in the 67th minute, added the second goal in injury time, leading the Egyptian League top scorers’ chart with nine goals, level with Ahly midfielder Emam Ashour and NBE Club striker Ossama Faysal.
Zamalek's next game will be against Masry on the first of May.
