Israeli authorities released on Monday 10 Palestinians from Gaza in a severely deteriorated health, intensifying concerns over systematic torture in Israeli custody.

The Palestinians, detained during a ground raid on the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza nearly six months ago, arrived at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir Al-Balah aboard the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) vehicles.

Hospital officials confirmed that the men exhibited signs of torture, malnutrition, and untreated wounds, according to a statement by the Palestinian Prisoner's Club, as reported by Shehab news agency.

The 10 were among thousands detained by Israeli forces since the Israeli war on Gaza began on 7 October 2023.

Their detention occurred without formal charges, raising questions about the legal basis of their imprisonment.

The latest release follows a similar event last Thursday, when 80 Palestinians were freed under comparable physical and psychological conditions.

A detailed report published by the Palestinian legal group Addameer on 16 March 2025 outlines widespread and systematic abuse in Israeli prisons.

Since the onset of the war, the group says, Israeli forces have arrested tens of thousands of Palestinians and subjected them to policies of starvation, isolation, and torture across facilities such as Ramlah, Damon, Megiddo, and Ofer prisons.

Addameer attributes 62 documented deaths to mistreatment in custody.

Reports from human rights organizations and Palestinian officials indicate that a large proportion of Palestinians are released often after weeks or months of harsh treatment.

On 15 March, UN Special Rapporteur on Torture Alice Jill Edwards urged independent investigations into the growing number of deaths and torture in Israeli detention centres.
