On Monday, the EU Commission unveiled an aid package for the Palestinian people that includes €620 million in grants to the Palestinian Authority (PA), €576 million for recovery projects in Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem.
It also includes €400 million in loans from the European Investment Bank and €82 million to support Palestinian refugees through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA).
"We are stepping up our support to the Palestinian people. EUR1.6 billion until 2027 will help stabilise the West Bank and Gaza," EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas wrote on X.
The Egyptian foreign ministry stated that the EU decision reflects its support for the Palestinian Authority and its institutions.
The ministry also hoped the EU would participate in the Early Recovery and Reconstruction Conference in Gaza, which Cairo plans to host in collaboration with the United Nations and the Palestinian government.
Furthermore, the ministry commended the EU's support for the two-state solution as the only lasting resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, urging the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
