Egypt fully supports Jordan against terrorism and extremist groups: FM Abdelatty to Safadi

​Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed on Wednesday Cairo's full support for Jordan against terrorism and extremist groups to his Jordanian counterpart, Ayman Safadi.

According to a foreign ministry statement, in a phone call, FM Abdelatty stressed to Safadi that Egypt condemns any attempts to undermine Jordan’s security and stability.

He also stressed Cairo’s unwavering solidarity with the Kingdom in countering all forms of subversive and destabilizing schemes, 

On Tuesday, Jordan's intelligence service announced the arrest of 16 individuals accused of plotting to target national security and create chaos.

Jordan's General Intelligence Department (GID) reported that the suspects were detained after extensive surveillance since 2021.

The suspects were charged with manufacturing rockets, possessing explosives and firearms, concealing a ready rocket, planning to build drones, and recruiting and training operatives both in Jordan and abroad.

He also reiterated Egypt’s full support for the Jordanian authorities in their efforts to protect the Kingdom's security.

Abdelatty and Safadi also discussed ongoing efforts to restore the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, brokered by Egypt, Qatar, and the US in January, and unilaterally ended by Tel Aviv in mid-March.

Egypt has been working around the clock with regional and international partners to restore the Gaza ceasefire agreement and end the Israeli blockade on the entry of humanitarian aid to the strip.

Since then, Israel resumed its genocidal war on Gaza, killing over 1,630 Palestinians, bringing the death toll since 7 October 2023 to at least 51,000, most of whom are women and children.

Additionally, Egypt and Jordan's foreign ministers discussed Israeli escalations in the occupied West Bank, including Israeli raids on Palestinian cities, ongoing land confiscations, and an increase in settlement activities.

They also reviewed the outcomes of the Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee's recent meetings on Gaza and discussed the next steps for coordinated engagement with international partners.
