During his high-level visit, which began on Monday, Wu participated in a workshop on Egypt’s Nexus for Water, Food, and Energy (NWFE) Programme.
He also held talks with United Nations agencies, the World Bank, and the African Development Bank to align efforts on transforming the food system.
In addition, Wu discussed the progress in the Climate-Resilient On-Farm Water Management in the Nile Valley (CROWN) project with Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk in a separate meeting.
The project is a $114 million initiative, with $63 million from IFAD.
“CROWN aims to enhance poor rural households’ resilience by improving water efficiency, boosting farm productivity, and safeguarding Egypt’s food systems against climate change,” Wu stated.

Moreover, IFAD supports three other active projects in Egypt, totalling $446 million, including $197 million from IFAD. The ministry oversees the implementation of these projects.
Wu also visited the Sustainable Agriculture Investments and Livelihoods Project (SAIL), which has assisted 38,472 households in Kafr El-Sheikh, Beni Suef, Minya, and Aswan.
The project focuses on income growth and agricultural modernization.
Before his departure, Wu visited the Chinese embassy in Egypt to explore trilateral cooperation in rural transformation and digital agriculture.
Since joining IFAD in 1977, Egypt has received $1.2 billion across 15 projects, making it one of the fund’s largest beneficiaries in the region.
In 2022, Egypt designated IFAD as the lead coordinator for the food pillar of the NWFE Programme during COP27, underscoring its role in mobilizing funds for rural communities.
IFAD leverages its resources alongside partnerships with international financial institutions to scale up funding.
