El-Sisi and Congolese president discuss Nile Basin cooperation and regional stability

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi held a phone call with his Congolese counterpart Félix Tshisekedi, on Saturday. The two leaders discussed ways to enhance cooperation among Nile Basin countries and address regional challenges.

According to a statement from the Egyptian presidency, both leaders stressed the importance of consensus among Nile Basin states to strengthen collaborative frameworks and promote joint development initiatives that serve their shared interests.

El-Sisi also offered his condolences to Tshisekedi and the Congolese people following a recent boat accident on the Congo River that left dozens dead.

The conversation included an exchange of views on the situation in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, where violence and instability continue to pose humanitarian and political concerns.

El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s support for regional and international efforts to reach a political resolution and restore stability to the area.

The two presidents also spoke of the longstanding ties between Egypt and the DRC, expressing a mutual commitment to deepening bilateral relations, particularly in economic and developmental cooperation.
