A representative of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi attended the service, along with several ministers, senior officials, diplomats, public figures, media professionals, and hundreds of Coptic worshippers.
"I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all churches worldwide on the glorious Feast of the Resurrection. I especially greet the churches in Arab Jerusalem and the city of Jerusalem," Pope Tawadros said during his address after the cathedral's Easter celebration in Abbassiya.
He added, "It brings me great joy that this year, all Christians are celebrating Easter on the same day, as the Eastern and Western calendars have aligned."
Egyptian and Christian Coptic television channels aired the Easter Mass live, as did the official Facebook page of the Coptic Orthodox Church's spokesman.
Scout and volunteer teams were deployed to assist worshippers in finding their seats. Special areas were designated with real-time interpretation for people who are hard of hearing.
A large delegation of Coptic faithful from several African countries was also in attendance.
On Sunday morning, Pope Tawadros II is scheduled to receive Easter greetings at the Papal Residence in Abbassia, where he will welcome bishops, clergy, church members, senior government officials, and public figures.
Egypt's Evangelical Christian community also held their Easter mass at the Evangelical Church in Heliopolis Saturday evening.
The Easter mass was headed by Reverend Dr. Andrea Zaki, President of the Evangelical Community in Egypt.
Several government officials attended the event, including Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment; Ashraf Sobhy, Minister of Youth and Sports; Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development; Mahmoud Fawzy, Minister of Parliamentary and Legal Affairs and Political Communication; Sameh El-Hefny, Minister of Civil Aviation; and MP Mohamed Aboul Enein, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.
