The Egyptian club, appearing in the semi-finals for the first time, saw two goals disallowed in Johannesburg — one for offside and one for handball — late in each half.
Jurcic, a former Croatian international, was visibly frustrated after the match. “We scored two goals. We won the match 2-0 after an excellent performance,” he said, according to AFP, despite admitting he had not yet reviewed the replays.
“I am proud of how my players performed and how many scoring chances they created. I am, however, frustrated by the disallowed goals.”
Pirates, former champions, will draw confidence from their record in North Africa this season after notching away wins in Algeria and Egypt, including a victory over Ahly.
Pyramids will host the second leg in Cairo on Friday.
