This came during his speech at the graduation ceremony of the second training course for imams from the Ministry of Awqaf (Religious Endowments), held at the Egyptian Military Academy in New Cairo's Al-Manara International Conference Centre.

The ceremony marked the graduation of 550 imams, after 24 weeks of intensive preparation, who have been entrusted to spread guidance and promote the values of mercy, tolerance, and awareness, according to a statement by the Egyptian presidency.

The programme aimed to enhance their religious discourse and communication skills, with a focus on countering extremist ideologies and addressing contemporary challenges.

During his speech, El-Sisi emphasized that renewing religious discourse requires enlightened and broad-minded preachers and scholars who are loyal to both their faith and their nation.

They are aware of their people's challenges and offer them practical and principled solutions that align with the religion's objectives and its enduring principles, he added.

The president clarified that renewing religious discourse is not limited to correcting misconceptions but involves presenting the “true, bright image of Islam, as reflected in the life of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), conveyed by the noble companions, and established by the righteous imams throughout history.”

He also asserted that words alone cannot change society but must be backed by effective actions, citing the use of mosques for educational services as one example.

Furthermore, El-Sisi highlighted the role of imams in preserving the Arabic language and defending freedoms.

He added that the ceremony underscores Egypt’s firm commitment to its national project of integrated human development  one that nurtures both intellect and spirit, positioning religion as a foundation for progress rooted in belonging, moderation, and sound judgment.

The president also expressed gratitude to all institutions involved, highlighting that building individuals is key to building the nation and securing a brighter future.

El-Sisi concluded his speech by offering renewed condolences over the passing of Pope Francis, the head of the Roman Catholic Church, describing his death as a loss of a towering figure for humanity.

The ceremony also included the screening of a documentary showcasing the success of the training programme, followed by a group research presentation by the imam trainees on the encyclopedic knowledge of scholars and preachers and its impact on their performance.
