Cardoso, 52, is confident the South African club can secure a spot in the final despite a goalless draw in the first leg in Pretoria last weekend.

“We didn’t score in the first leg, but we are ready for the second,” Cardoso told reporters on Tuesday. “I believe we can finish the job in Cairo.”

Ahly, winners of a record 12 continental titles, had two goals ruled out for offside in a tight first-leg encounter at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

“Ahly and Sundowns are the best teams in Africa. One will reach the final, the other will miss out,” Cardoso said.

“I hope we are strong enough to come out on top,” the Portuguese coach added.

The return leg takes place on Friday at Cairo International Stadium.

In the other semi-final, Egyptian Premier League contenders Pyramids FC host South Africa’s Orlando Pirates, also on Friday, following a 0-0 draw in the first leg.
