The adoption of DST will shift the country from GMT+2 to GMT+3, the statement added.
Egypt observes daylight saving time annually from the last Friday in April until the final Thursday in October, as per a 2023 law.
This seasonal time change is part of Egypt’s broader efforts to reduce energy consumption as the cooler months approach—a strategy that mirrors similar practices in various countries worldwide.
Egypt first introduced DST, locally known as summertime, in 1957 and applied it intermittently in the decades that followed.
The country last used DST in 2014, primarily in response to electricity shortages at the time, before being suspended for nearly a decade.
Summertime was reinstated in 2023, with the Egyptian cabinet estimating it could cut electricity usage by up to 10 percent.
