Egypt’s futsal women’s team is playing in the inaugural edition of the Africa Cup of Nations

The Egyptian women’s futsal team arrived in Rabat, Morocco, on Monday to take part in the maiden CAF Women’s Futsal Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) which will take place from 22-30 April, reports Inas Mazhar.

Futsal is a modified form of football played with five players per side.

A month ago, the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) unveiled the schedule of the participating African teams: Morocco, Egypt, Angola, Cameroon, Guinea, Madagascar, Namibia, Senegal, and Tanzania.

Egypt, led by head coach Nader Rashad, have been training daily for the past three months at the indoor complex of Cairo Stadium and the Dr Hassan Mustafa Hall in 6 October city.

According to CAF online, the competition is bringing together the best nations on the continent in a thrilling tournament where they will compete for the crown of Africa’s best team and to earn a place at the FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup later this year.

All matches will take place at the Moulay-Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat with the group stage to kick off on 22 April with three matches to be held: Morocco vs Namibia (Group A), Angola vs Guinea (Group B) and Madagascar vs Senegal (Group C). On 24 April Morocco will take on Cameroon in Group A, Angola versus Egypt in Group B and Madagascar vs Tanzania in Group C.

The group stage will conclude on 26 April with Cameroon vs Namibia (Group A), Egypt vs Guinea (Group B) and Tanzania vs Senegal (Group C). The winners of each of the three pools will go directly to the semi-finals of the tournament. Fourth place in the semi-finals will go to the team ranked best second among the groups.

The semi-finals will be held on 28 April when the winners will qualify for the final game. Classification matches for fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth place are on 29 April whereas the final and third place matches will be held on 30 April.

The finalists will qualify for the FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup, scheduled to take place in the Philippines from 27 November to 7 December of this year.
