New films across cinemas
Thursday, 24 April, and Friday, 25 April, will bring several new films to movie theatres across Egypt.
Thursday, 24 April:
- Happy Heroes: The Stones, starring Yuting Deng, Quansheng Gao, Hongyun Liu, and Yanzi Yan;
- Until Dawn, starring Ella Rubin, Michael Cimino, and Odessa A’zion;
- The Accountant 2, starring Jon Bernthal, Ben Affleck, and J. K. Simmons;
- Drop, starring Violett Beane, Meghann Fahy, and Brandon Sklenar;
- Last Breath, starring Woody Harrelson, Simu Liu, and Finn Cole.
Friday, 25 April:
- Pink Floyd at Pompeii - MCMLXXII, the iconic 1972 film now re-mastered in 4K with enhanced audio.
Omar Khairat - music

The multi-award-winning Khairat, born in 1947, is one of the top musicians of the Arab world with hundreds of memorized compositions in his repertoire.
Throughout his long and successful career, he has written scores for numerous films and television series, including The Sixth Day (1984), The Terrorist (1993), Mafia (2002), Girls' Love (2003), The Embassy in the Building (2005), and The Deer’s Blood (2006), to name but a few.
His concerts in Egypt and across the Arab world are usually fully booked weeks ahead of time.
Khairat's large fan base always memorises and repeats compositions like Heya Di El-Hayah, Fi Hawid El Leil, Arabian Rhapsody, Fiha Haga Helwa, Eadam Mayet, El-Khawaga Abdel-Kader, Giran El-Hana, Saber, Arfa, Qadeyet Am Ahmed, Khali Balak Men Aklak, and other classic hits of time-honoured TV and film themes.
The Farewell - theatre play
Wednesday, 23 and Thursday, 24 April, 8pm
Rawabet Art Space, 5 Hussein Basha Al-Meamari, Downtown Cairo
The play consists of three different short stories, all connected by similar scenography and a shared dramatic framework.
The first story revolves around three sisters reminiscing about their childhood memories. The second tells the story of a couple on the verge of separation, but an unexpected event forces them to sit down and talk once more.
The third story follows a group of friends waiting for one of their own on the night of his departure.
What ties these stories together is their exploration of human relationships in all their different forms and complexities.

Saad El-Oud - music
Thursday, 24 April, 8pm
Theatro Arkan, Sheikh Zayed
Oud player Saad El-Oud plays songs representing authentic Egyptian heritage while interacting with the audience.
El-Oud has frequently performed across the Gulf countries and is an active musician, performing in renowned venues and small spaces that host up-and-coming independent bands.
Tamer Ashour - music
Friday, 25 April, 8pm
Zed Park, Sheikh Zayed
Singer and composer Tamer Ashour came into the spotlight in the mid-2000s.
Ever since, he has released seven albums, establishing himself as one of the most popular performers in Egypt and the Arab world.
His breakthrough as a singer came with the release of his debut single Zekrayat Kedaba (Lying Memories) in 2006.
The song's success led Ashour to work on his first album Saab (Difficult), released in 2007.
Consecutive albums followed: Had Byheb (2008), Laya Nazra (2011), Esht Maak (2014), Khayali (2017), Ayam (2019), Tegy Netrahen (2022), and others.
Reda Troupe - dance

Reda Troupe was established in 1957 by brothers Mahmoud Reda and Ali Reda.
The troupe has revolutionized Egyptian folk dance by blending traditional folkloric styles with Western techniques like ballet and modern dance
It initially started with 12 dancers and 12 musicians but later expanded to over 150 members, including dancers, musicians, and technicians, becoming a leading cultural ambassador for Egypt.
Reda Troupe performed at prestigious venues worldwide, garnering awards while reviving and preserving the folkloric dance.
Cairo, My Love - Celebration of Cairo

City’s Transformations - lecture, 6pm
A lecture by Emad Abou-Ghazi, a professor of Archival Studies at Cairo University, on the city's transformations during the Mamluk period.
Portraits of the City - exhibition, 7:30-8:30pm
Two artists, Lucas Kukler from the Netherlands and Michael Safwat from Egypt, capture Cairo from different perspectives and express their personal impressions of the city.
Habayebna - music, 9pm
The band takes listeners on a musical journey through Cairo's historic neighbourhoods, presenting a compilation of songs that praise the beauty and the heritage of our city.

Folklorita - music
Sunday, 27 April, 8pm
Al-Ghoury Dome, Al-Darb Al-Ahmar, Fatimid Cairo
Folklorita presents covers of songs from the Egyptian heritage.
The group consisting of 17 performers relies mainly on voices, percussive instruments, tabla, doholla, and daff in addition to other musicians.
Folklorita’s first concert was in March 2024, and ever since, the group has performed across many venues in Egypt.
They have also performed during the opening and closing ceremony of the Alexandria Short Film Festival.
Kayan band - music
Tuesday, 29 April, 8pm
Room Art Space, New Cairo
Kayan band was founded by violinist Azmy in 2019.
It presents an alternative mix of Oriental Egyptian music and Western classics, blending the golden era of Arabic pop with 90s music and an Oriental touch.
