The move came as part of the country’s strategy to broaden available facilities and attract increased inbound tourism from diverse markets.
Tourism is one of Egypt’s key sources of foreign currency.
The Egyptian government has developed a national tourism strategy to boost the sector and attract 30 million visitors by 2028.
To reach this target, approximately 250,000 new hotel rooms, in addition to the over 220,000 already existing as of February 2024, are needed.
In 2024, Egypt welcomed 15.7 million tourists and generated a total revenue of $14.1 billion, surpassing the previous record of 14.9 million visitors set in 2023.
